Crete Designs
Academic project
āCrete Designs business was formed as part of an academic project where teams had to develop creative products to be sold using fake 'QUTopian' currency during two real-world market day simulations held at the QUT Gardens Point campus. The semester involved the formation of a marketing plan, implementation at market day, and an individual reflective case analysis post market day.
Our team decided to make a variety of 'concrete' jewellery ranging necklaces, earrings and ring holders, which inspired the business names of 'Crete Designs'. Sponsorships from local building and printing companies were attained to reduce our manufacturing overheads and increase profitability. Our marketing efforts and execution resulted in achieving the second-highest profitability and sales in the history of QUTopia. ā
After the market days, I had to individually analyse and reflect on my teamās performance using tools such as market share calculations, competitor analysis, profitability and customer retention ratios.
Assessment in this course was closely aligned with three stages: planning (assessed by a marketing pitch); implementation (assessed at the market days); and evaluation (assessed by case analysis and a reflective video).
I designed, created and posted over 85% of the content on the business Facebook page which created strong brand awareness through consistency. All posts were shared to the closed 'QUTopia' Facebook to reach the target market. Click the link below to visit the Facebook page.
Awards
Crete Designs received the units 'Purple Cow' award for innovation and creativity in the āTotal Customer Experience', thus standing out from the crowd of 63 businesses. Additionally, my individual case analysis is now being used by faculty as an example of a High Distinction for future students. In Semester 1, 2018 I was invited back to guest judge students 'Shark Tank' style pitches prior to market day and provide valuable feedback and recommendations.
